Art & Design

Art and design stimulates creativity and imagination. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a special way of understanding and responding to the world. It enables young people to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes.

Students explore ideas and meanings through the work of artists and designers and how these can impact on their own lives.

At RAP each project aims to encourage learners to investigate and explore a theme or an inspiration, which will in turn encourage development of ideas. A mixture of whole class teaching and individual/group activities ensures that students can both flourish when they are confident and feel supported in areas where they may need assistance. Learners are given the opportunity to work with a wide range of materials and resources including ICT.

The Art department recognizes the needs of learners of differing abilities and therefore the challenge of the task is matched to the ability of the individual learner.
